We had a fun weekend last weekend. We went to our mountain retreat (my parent's house). On Saturday it was pouring down rain so we went to an indoor horse show in Lexington, Virginia about 45 minutes away. The boys patiently watched the Arabian Horse Show with the women riding properly in their English riding attire. The boys played a game where they found the golden horseshoe and won stuffed animals. Then we proceeded to another arena where they were having the Painted horse show. We walked in the door to quite a different setting than the first show. The cowboys and cowgirls were all decked out in their western finest. And my culturally sensitive son from the top of his dad's shoulders surveyed the surroundings and said at the top of his voice...YEE-HAW!!
We also made a quick stop at Rockbridge Vineyards for a festival they were having, but the rain put a damper on the festivities. So maybe next time we will get to see the grape stompers in action.
Sunday we desperately wanted to take the boys on their first canoe ride but the weather was just a little too iffy. So we stayed close to the fire in the morning and ate yummy pancakes (thanks Grandma). Around lunchtime we ventured down to the pond for a very quick little ride around the mini-lake. The boys loved it! And we were thankful we didn't take them out on a big lake yet!
